Our goal is to promote and draw attention to these wonderful properties, to help sustain a European tradition of travel and the idea of luxury accommodation that originated with the Grand Tour of the 17th & 18th centuries.

As editors we prefer inclusiveness over exclusivity. As such we use broad strokes and a certain discretion in defining our list. These are the criteria which define a hotel as a Grand Hotel, any hotel appearing in these pages needs to have at least some of these features:

- Grandeur, especially regarding architecture
- Outstanding Service
- Art Collection
- Fine Dining
- A Place to Meet, be it by the pool, in the lobby or, preferably, at a proper hotel bar.

Regarding hotel bookings, although we use various booking sites for reference, we prefer to book directly with the hotels. We encourage our readers to do likewise and have provided links to the hotels and their respective collections for their convenience.
